Poly Shield® KBR Insulated Sheathing / Roofing Underlayment is primarily used for mobile homes, manufactured homes, warehouses, and agricultural buildings. Poly Shield® KBR is faced on both sides by a metalized polyester laminated to heavy Kraft paper. The laminations make KBR more durable and damage resistant during product storage and installation than plain EPS insulation.
Poly Shield® KBR is recommended for Manufactured Home Roofing Insulation, Warehouses, Agricultural Buildings, and other building insulation applications allowed by pertinent building codes. Install to applicable CFR and/or building codes. We recommend regular Poly Shield® instead of Poly Shield® KBR for residential or inhabited commercial / industrial buildings.
EPS reduces energy costs and offers the highest R-value per dollar of any foam insulation board. Poly Shield® is lightweight and easy to install.
The R-value of Poly Shield® KBR is permanent. Unlike Polyiso or XPS whose blowing agents outgas, EPS R-values do not degrade over decades of use. When combined in a wall or ceiling design facing dead air space, our reflective metalized facer may increase R-value significantly.
Cellofoam EPS is quick drying and does not readily absorb moisture from the air. Its closed-cell structure reduces the absorption and migration of moisture, and the facers surfaces are nearly impervious to moisture. Not a vapor barrier. Thermal and mechanical properties are unaffected by freeze-thaw cycling.
The EPS core of Poly Shield® KBR meets or exceeds ASTM C578 specs, with excellent dimensional stability & compressive strength. When properly installed it does not deteriorate with age, and is resistant to mildew, rot, fungus, and bacteria.
Cellofoam EPS contains no formaldehyde or ozone-depleting CFCs or HCFCs. Poly Shield's EPS core is 100% recyclable and may contain recycled material.
Poly Shield® KBR is available in 4 ft wide boards in lengths from 8 to 16 ft, in thicknesses of 1 to 6 inches, and in ASTM C578 nominal densities of 1.0, 1.25, 1.5, and 2.0 lb/ft3.
This product complies with HUD 24 CFR § 3280.208. The expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam plastic insulation core of Poly Shield® KBR is Underwriters Laboratory listed (UL ER7260). Please consult appropriate building codes.
